Värriön luontopäiväkirja - Varrio nature diary

Värriön SMEAR-asemalla on mitattu fotosynteesiä syksyllä 2008 ensimmäisen kerran taukoamatta niin pitkälle syksyyn kuin puut ja kyvetit antavat siihen aihetta. Mitattava mäntyjen fotosynteesi jatkuu loka-marraskuussa vielä, kun lämpötila putoaa alle viiden asteen.

Joulukuun huurrekeli on sen sijaan jo liikaa sekä puille että kyveteille. Kyvettien tekniikka hyytyy -2 asteessa, mutta kyvetit saadaan verraten nopeasti käyntiin, kun tulee useamman päivän suojakeli.


Photosynthesis measurements in Varrio SMEAR-station continued since October (end of the conventional growing season, based on 5 degrees threshold temperature in Degree Days -theory). Measurements can continue down to -2 degrees, below which the techniques of the present cuvettes stop functioning.

In December the trees and cuvettes are covered by icy frost and snow, and the photosynthesis measurements are in full stop - until we have a period of several days with mild weather which melts the snow.
