Vuosi 2008 alkoi Itäkairassakin vähälumisena, mutta kuitenkin pakkasessa. Sotatunturissa (vasen kuva) kivirakkarakka näkyy vielä hyvin. Tunturin juuren ohittava tie on peilisen jäinen.

Sotatunturin jängän laidalta, tien oikealta puolen pöllähti lentoon yksinäinen riekko (keskikuva) ja jatkoi äänettömästi metsään; lieneekö ollut naaras.

Jängältä pohjoiseen pakkastaivas hohto kuparisena (oikean puoleinen kuva). Aurinko ei vielä näyttäydy, vaikka on keskipäivän aika.

Year 2008 started with little snow, but the weather was moderately cold, about -20 degrees. Sotatunturi fell shows up as stony (leftnost picture). The road passing the foothill of the fell is slippery, in some places the ice was like a mirros on the road.

A lonesome willow ptarmigan (Lagopus lagopus) jumped to flight from the mire of Sotatunturi (center picture). It flew silently to the forest, perhaps it was a female.

North of the road the sky in the horizon was copperly as it is this time of the year on clear, cold weather (rightmost picture).
