Pyy lisääntyy Värriön luonnonpuistossa - Hazel Grouse is increasing in Varrio Nature Reserve

Vähäisistäkin havainnoista paljastuu mielenkiintoinen seikka: pyy on lumihavaintojen perusteella lisääntymässä Värriön luonnonpuistossa. Nouseva suunta on tilastitieteen puolestakin merkitsevä. Ensimmäiset jälkihavainnot saatiin 1977-1981. Varsinaisesti pyyn aika alkoi kuitenkin vasta 1990-luvulla, siis jaksolla jolloin luonnonpuiston metsästysrauhoitus alkoi vaikuttaa.

Hazel Grouse is not very active in leaving tracks to the snow. Besides, it is rather rare as far in the north as Varrio is situated. A few Hazel Grouse tracks are recorded annually though, for instance four time in the season 2006/2007 altogether four times. Even if the observations are few they reveal in interesting fact: the population seems to be on a rising trend. The trend is also statistically significant (F=0.0014). The Hazel Grouse tracks were observed 1997-1981. The true era of Haze Grouse did not, however, start until 1990s. It must again be remembered that Varrio Nature Reserve was conserved from bird hunting in two stages, the partial conservation in 1981 and the complete conservation in 1995.
