Värriön luontopäiväkirja - Varrio nature diary

Muun poronhoitoalueen tavoin porot laiduntavat myös luonnonpuistoissa. Poronjäkälä on lähes kauttaaltaan syöty matalaksi matoksi. Tuuheita palleroporonjäkälikköjä ei löydy Värriön luonnonpuistossa muualta kuin jyrkiltä pahdoilta mihin porot eivät pääse laiduntamaan, kuten eivät ole päässeet tällekään Pirunkurun lammen yläpuoliselle pahdalle.

Reindeers are part of the Varrio Nature Reserve. Their grazing pressure on Cladonia lichens is rather heavy, and in normal cases the lichens have been eaten almost down to the ground. We can see ungrazed Cladonias only in such steep cliffs where the reindeers cannot reach, like in the photo which was taken above the Devil's goorge.
