Urpiaisen pesäsuolla - Nesting site of Common redpoll

Urpiainen pesii tämän matalan tunturipajun tyvellä (ks. luontopäiväkirjamerkinnät 5.7.2006 ja 6.7.2006). Matti Pohjonen kuvaa pesää, Teuvo Hietajärvi kirjaa pesän tietoja.

Värriö III:n ja IV:n välisessä matalassa, soistuneessa notkossa on laajahko tunturipajun kasvusto (taustalla), jossa myös pikkukuovi huuteli pesän jo jättäneistä poikasista kertovia varoitushuutojaan.

Common redpoll (Carduelis flammea) has her nest in the low willow bush only 10 cm from the ground (see the Nature diary posts of 5 and 6 July). Matti Pohjonen films the nest for video, Teuvo Hietajarvi takes notes on the nest data for Varrio research station records.

There is pretty large stand of this bushy willow (Salix glauca ssp. glauca) in the low and swampy valley between Varrio fells peak III and IV. There was also Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus) on this bog shouting in a way that told about small chicks that had already left the nest.
