Riekonmarja (Arctostaphylos alpinus) talvehtii kokonaisena marjana hangen alla, vaikka kasvi itse on kesävihanta. Uudet lehdet alkavat kasvaa keväällä lakastuneiden lehtien seasta, versojen kärjistä.

Mountain bearberry (Arctostaphylos alpinus) overwinters as a whole berry under the snow, although the plant itself is deciduous. New leaves start to grow in spring, among the withered old leaves, into the tips of the stems.
