Värriön luontopäiväkirja - Varrio nature diary

Lumet lähtivät tänään, voimallisen lämpöaallon seurauksena Värriön tutkimusaseman säähavaintopisteestä. Lumien lähtö on aikaistunut vuodesta 1981 lähtien, neljännesvuosisadassa keskimäärin 12 päivällä (ks. kuva ja Luontopäiväkirjan merkintä 15.9.2005).

Kuluneen ajanjakson perusteella tehty ennuste vuoden 2006 lumien lähdölle oli 16. toukokuuta (kalenteripäivä nro 136). Nyt lumet kuitenkin lähtivät 8 päivää etuajassa.

Winter 2005-2006 snows are gone, thanks to warm spring spell of the last few days. The date of snow melt was recorded today (8 May) in the standard spot of our climate station.

During the past quarter of century the date of snow melt seems to be earlier and earlier. In our study period (1981-2006) this shift is 12 days. Based on the downward trend we made a prognosis last autumn for this spring snow melt (see the blog note from 15.9.2005). We predicted that 16 May 2006 would be date. Now the snow disappeared eight days in advance time.
