Metson päiväasento - Daytime activities of Capercaillie
Metso ei kiipeä huurreaikana välttämättä puuhun hakomaan. Paksussa huurteessa olevien oksien ravistelu on työlästä, ennen kuin lumettomiin neulasiin pääsee käsiksi. Usein metso hoitaa neulaset maasta, ravistelee alaoksia suoraan maasta, jos vain männyn oksat riippuvat linnun ulottuvilla.
Kuvan koirasmetso oli viettänyt koko aamupäivän oksiaan maahan asti riiputtavan männyn alla. Vasemmassa laidassa näkyy jätöksiä, siellä täällä hakoja. Kuvan etualalla on siiven iskujen jäljet, kun metso karkottui edestäni (Rakitsan vaarassa, kuva otettu 14.12.2008).
Capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) does not want to eat in the tops of Scots pines if the the trees are too full of snow and if some branches of Scots pines hang low enough for the bird to eat directly from the ground.
The male capercaillie had been eating the whole morning under the tree while I skiied to the site and the bird decided to escape. The picture has been taken on 14.12.2008.
